{"id":604,"date":"2026-05-18T14:01:27","date_gmt":"2026-05-18T14:01:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/justbethejourney.com\/?p=604"},"modified":"2026-05-19T14:28:56","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T14:28:56","slug":"authentic-self","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/justbethejourney.com\/?p=604","title":{"rendered":"Authentic Self"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The following is an excerpt from Liz&#8217;s Memoir published in 2020, called Just Be: My Healing Journey to Embrace the Mess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a moment of contemplation back in 2018, Liz sat down and wrote out answers to two questions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What I don&#8217;t want? and What is non-negotiable?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes starting with the hard line of things you certainly don&#8217;t want in your life opens space for imagining what you do. And through this act, you come one step closer to your authentic self.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authentic Self &#8211; Liz Kametz<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>What I don\u2019t want:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o Mindless meetings that have no meaning and still take time and energy for no purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o Crammed schedule where I\u2019m just going from one thing to the next without even getting time to eat, bathroom, walk, breathe&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o Rushing from work to home without a break in between to reground for the next section of the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o Being caught in the \u2018glory\u2019 of being involved in what seemingly is \u2018more important\u2019: work. And losing sight of my priorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o I know my priorities are for me to find what fuels me\u2014what gives me the energy to sustain the mundane and sometimes very difficult home-life that I want to be present for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o Once I have an approach, how do I test that I\u2019m prepared and can handle the real life I have to go back to?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o To focus solely on deadlines\u2014because subconsciously it\u2019s driving me into the ground\u2014<em>dead<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>What is non-negotiable:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o Being heard: supporting ways for people to truly be heard without being cut off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o Diversity and inclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o Mindful projects. To act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o Knowing transitions are hard. Solicit the kids to help solve the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o I want to spend time and teach the kids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o Self-care. Self-advocacy: I need to feel in the relationship, in parenting, at work, as a daughter, as a friend, sister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o As an empath, ensuring I balance and recognize my emotions compared to others\u2019, and being open the self-care path needed to sustain me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o Self-discovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o Time to read, research, write. Then test, learn, and adjust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o Try something new each day. Could be the smallest thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o Water is my element source of energy, use it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o Time to be in nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o Time to laugh together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o Time to be in silence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o Time to help others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o Time to be analytical around human problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o Time to be creative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o Time to watch children grow in their passions (e.g., sports, art, computers, outdoors, friendships, cooking)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let this exercise flow.
